Uttar Pradesh: Twenty-three passengers were reportedly killed and over 60 injured when 14 coaches of the Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express derailed in Khatauli on Saturday (Aug. 19) evening.
More casualties are feared as a number of passengers are said to have been trapped in the coaches.
The accident took place around 5.45 pm.
India’s Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu ordered an inquiry into the derailment.He also announced Rs 3.5 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for each of the seriously injured. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
