Ludhiana (December 04, 2009): According to some media reports the local police has fortified Sector 32, near Vardhman Spinning Mills, Chandigarh Road, where controversial dera head Ashutosh is going to hold a function that will begin on December 5.

With protests against this function surfacing, the police have tightened the security around the area of the meet which now sports a khakhi look. Meanwhile, many Sikhs, who hails primarily from the Kalgidhar Gurudwara area, held a protest dharna at Jagraon bridge here today demanding a ban on these activities of so-called Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan. This dera headed by Ashutosh, has been on the hit list of the Sikhs since the 80s after he spoke against the Sikh Gurus and Guru Granth Sahib.

As per media reports the meeting site was visited by top officials of the district administration and police officials here today to review the situation. The police have already called in for reinforcement to avoid any outward incident.

SP City (3), Harjinder Singh, when contacted, said, “We have called in five to seven companies of the IRB and deputed them at the meeting of the site. There is a heavy deployment of the police just to see that there is no law and order problem.”

As per news reported by ExpressIndia.Com Avtar Singh Makkar, president, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandhak Committee, when asked about the godman’s meeting, said, “What the government is doing is correct. Whatever decision it will take will be correct.” When told that the meeting was scheduled to be held on December 5, Makkar changed his stance and said, “I am not aware about this meeting as I am not in the town.”

“This is highly unfortunate that the President of SGPC is such a boneless person that instead of leading the Sikhs to oppose vicious activites of this dummy godman, he is shoeing ignorance regarding those events which are looked at closely by Sikhs around the globe.” said  a Sikh among those protesting against Ashutosh.
