President of India cleared execution of two; including Prof. Devinderpal Singh Bhullar

New Delhi (May 26, 2011): Whereas there is a global wave against death penality, India has decided to go ahead with it. After seven years, the clearance has been given for execution of two convicts that could start the process of clearing the long list of death row convicts.

HC paved the way for release of Bhai Lal Singh Akalgarh

Chandigarh (May 25, 2011): Hearing the plea of Bhai Lal Singh Akalgarh for release from Jail, the Punjab and Haryana High court has granted releaf of extended parole, till the Gujrat Government decides to redeem his imprisionment for life as per set norms of applicable jail manuals.

SSF also endorse to demand of Martyrs’ memorial

Patiala (May 24, 2011): The Sikh Students Federation has endorsed to the demand of raising memorial for those who died during June 1984 attack on Darbar Sahib, Amritsar. Sikh bodies have been raising the demand since many past years.

American Gurdwara Committee supports Memorial for June 1984 Martyrs

San Francisco, USA (18 May 2011): American Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee (AGPC) has supported the Panthic bodies that served an ultimatum to Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs in Amritsar to set up martyrs memorial in the Darbar Sahib complex and open 'Martyrs Gallery' at Akal Takht for the public.

AISSF & SJF want holiday on 6 June; write to Punjab CM

Chandigarh (May 18, 2011): All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) and Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) submitted a memorandum to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and all members of Punjab Vidhan Sabha demanding that June 06 be declared as State Holiday in Punjab to commemorate June 1984 attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib; destruction of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and killing of thousands of Sikh men, women and children by the Indian Army.

Mandhir Singh released from Nabha Jail

Nabha (May 14, 2011): A youth leader of Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) and former President of Sikh Students Federation, Mandhir Singh, got released on bail from Maximum security jail Nabha today. Bail was granted to Mandhir Singh on last Wednesday by Mansa Court upon failure of prosecution to file chargesheet against him with in specified statutory limit of 90 days. Panch Pardhani is led by Bhai Daljeet Singh Bittu, who is currently lodged in Amritsar Jail, allegedly for political reasons.

Former SSF President gets bail, release expected in coming days

Mansa (May 11, 2011): Bhai Mandhir Singh, former president of Sikh Students Federation, got bail in Mansa case. Mandhir Singh was arrested by Mansa police on 18 January, 2011. His arrest had raised many questions on working of Punjab police and later developments seems to affirm the allegation that police was working under political pressure.

Memorial for Sikh Martyrs’ of June 1984: Panch Pardhani meets Jathedar

Amritsar (May 06, 2011): Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) today took up the issue of opening “Martyrs' gallery” situated at Sri Akal Takhat and building up the memorials of “Sikh Martyrs” of June 1984. A delegation comprising senior leaders of Panch Pardhani tendered a memorandum to Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal takhat, in this regard.

Continuing violence against religious minorities – India on US watch list

New York (May 4, 2011): India is placed on the Watch List of U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) for continuous incidents of religious violence and impunity from such violence. The USCIRF Report for 2011 places India on Watch List “because justice for past communal violence continues to be slow and ineffective.

Sikhism mandated at California’s Statewide Law enforcement training

California (April 30, 2011): In a huge win for the Sikh community, starting this summer, all law enforcement officers in the state of California will be trained to identify and respect Sikhs and Sikh practices. The training will be given as part of a required class in all police academies throughout the state, and will also be available online. In addition, current police officers are being advised of the training materials through a two-page bulletin being issued to all police departments.
