Mansa, Punjab (Sept. 30, 2014): Sikh preacher and Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee member Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, who is facing four cases in four police stations of Punjab, was granted bail by a Mansa court in one of the cases — registered against him at Bhikhi police station.
Before the vote was cast, British Prime Minister David Cameron and his team were so worried by voter sentiment swinging toward Scottish independence that they promised a raft of additional powers to Edinburgh (and Wales and Northern Ireland) such as the right to set its own tax rates—granting even more concessions than Scotland’s own parliament had demanded. Scotland won before it lost. Furthermore, what it won it will never give back, and what it lost it can try to win again later. England, meanwhile, feels ever more like the center of a Devolved Kingdom rather than a united one.
Chandigarh (Sept. 30): While accepting the appeal of defense, the High Court has reportedly acquitted Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) in a 1995 case. The case was related to an alleged attempt to assassinate former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal in 1995.

Washington, DC: The Kashmir American Council staged a sit-in outside the White House on Monday (Sept. 29) as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived to attend a private dinner where he was due to meet US President Obama and other key US officials. A number of Sikh protesters also gathered outside the White House and raised slogans against the Indian prime minister. An “International The News” report says police had to intervene when some of Narendra Modi supporters and protesters came face to face.
Chandigarh (Sept. 30): Two days after a police party along with a leader of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) killed two young brothers in Jamalpur area of Ludhiana, the Punjab Government, on Sept. 29 suspended Khanna SSP Harish Kumar Bansal besides dismissing four others for their alleged involvement in the Jamalpur fake encounter.

New York: This year, SikhNet.com hosted its 9th Annual Youth Film Festival online. The theme of the Film Festival, “Uncommon Courage” focused the directors’ lenses on the the stories of unseen heroes and everyday acts of valor. 25 films from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and India were submitted for the festival.
Batala/Gurdaspur, Punjab: Two decades after Gurdaspur resident Sukhpal Singh was eliminated by the Punjab Police in a fake encounter in 1994, his family says they will not give up their fight for justice. Sukhpal Singh’s widow Dalbir Kaur, his father Jagir Singh and son Jugraj Singh are living in penury. Fearing threat to their life, the family had to sell property at their ancestral village Kala Afgana (in Gurdaspur) and shift to Batala. However, the money was spent on a long legal battle and Dalbir Kaur’s illness.

Nabha/Patiala, Punjab (Sept. 29): Akali Dal Panch Pardhani leader Bhai Kulvir Singh Barapind was released Maximum security jail, Nabha on late this evening. Bhai Kulvir Singh Barapind was received outside Nabha jail by Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu, Harpal Singh Cheema, Amrik Singh Issru, Mandhir Singh and Manjit Singh Bamb besides other leaders and activists of Akali Dal Panch Pardhani.
Ludhiana, Punjab (Sept. 29): A detailed report by Mohit Khana, The Tribune journalist, says: [t]he cold-blooded gunning down of two young brothers, Harinder Singh and Jatinder Singh, allegedly by an Akali (Badal Dal) leader in connivance with a police party yesterday (Sept. 27) at Jamalpur near Ludhiana was reportedly a case of political rivalry. Hailing from Bhopur village near Machhiwara, the youths were active supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). They belonged to a poor Dalit family and were popular kabaddi players.
Jalandhar, Punjab (Sept. 29): A local court here today acquitted Akali Dal Panch Pardhani (ADPP) president Bhai Kulvir Singh Barapind in a two years old case. Bhai Kulvir Singh, who is also a member of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) from Phillaur constituency was brought to Jalandhar from Nabha Jail to hear the decision. Additional District and Sessions Judge Mandip Singh Dhillon acquitted Bhai Kulvir Singh from all charges leveled against by the Punjab police.
Toronto, Canada (Sept. 29): Parkash Kaur, the younger sister of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, died in Canada on Sept. 28, 2014. She was 96 and was living in Toronto. She was the only surviving member of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh's immediate family.
New York, USA (Sept. 28): Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's address at Madison Square Garden attracted thousands from the Indian community in the United States. The address also witnessed protests outside the venue by activists who reminded Indian Prime Minister's controversial past, as they accused him for mass murder of Muslim minority in Gujrat state in 2002.
New York (Sept. 29): A delegations of certain US based Sikhs, propagated as 'Sikh community leaders' by Indian media, reportedly held a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sept. 27 and raised the issue of harassment of those who had sought asylum in USA during 1980-90s by Indian authorities.
New Delhi, India: In a defamation case field by senior advocate and Aam Aadmi Party leader H.S. Phoolka, Congress party leader Jagdish Tytler offered unconditional apology. The offer was however turned down by Phoolka who said that any compromise in this case might sent a wrongful message to the public. Hearing in this case was held in a Delhi court on Sept. 27.
Kaithal, Haryana: Newly formed Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) is reportedly divided over the of expending support to Congress in the upcoming assembly polls. Top leadership of HSGMC has decided to back the ruling party but according to media reports, but there are some rebels as well.
New Delhi, India: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), on Sept. 27, launched its youth and students' wings, on the occasion of 107th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Aam Aadmi Party sources say that AAP Youth Wing (AYW) and Chhaatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) will help the party develop its strength from the grass roots by penetrating into different stratas of the society, under its programme Mission Vistaar undertaken after its severe drubbing in the Lok Sabha, a party insider said.
