Source of Hindi Imposition Lies in Indian Constitution: Language Groups Demand Revocation of CH. XVII

Madurai/Chandigarh: A Conference on “Language Rights in Federal State” was held on 29th June 2019 at Ulaga Tamil Sangam, Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

It was resolved during the conference attended by language activists, scholars, lawyers and educationists from various non-Hindi regions, including Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Punjab that “the ‘chapter – 17’ of the Constitution of India has to be entirely revoked and the new provisions as to the official languages have to be enacted by accepting the collective rights of the people of all the Linguistic States and in accordance with the federal principles”.

“The languages of all linguistic states shall be made as official languages of the Federal State of India”, reads another resolution. The conference also urged the states of Non-Hindi States to place this demand immediately before the Federal State of India.
