Chandigarh: The Punjab police have reportedly said that raids were being conducted to arrest singer Sidhu Moosewala.
Notably, Sidhu Moosewala was booked in two cases for firing at a police at two different places earlier this month. He was accompanied by Punjab police officials who had unauthorisedly arranged shooting practise for him. A video of Sidhu Moosewala firing an AK47 rifle at Badbar had gone viral over social media on May 4. He was booked for violating curfew besides some offences under Disaster Management Act (See details). Next day he was booked for firing at Ladha Kothi after another video showed that he had fired shot at that place also.
Arms Act Sections Added to FIR:
Notably, the sections related to offences under Arms Act were not added in FIR by the Punjab police. It triggered a wave of criticism against the police for allegedly going lenient on singer whose song vilifying a COVID19 victim Giani Baldev Singh Pathlawa was endorsed and promoted by Punjab police chief.
As per media reports, the Punjab police have now added sections of the Arms Act the FIR against Sidhu Moosewala.
“After the addition of Sections 25 and 30 of the Arms Act to the FIR against Moosewala and others, their act has now become a non-bailable offence. We have formed special teams and started conducting raids to arrest the accused”, Gurmeet Singh, SP, Punjab Bureau of Investigation reportedly said.
