Rohtak, Haryana: Despite non-participation in Haryana Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) India level executive member Naveen Jaihind on Tuesday said the party, which polled nearly 5 lakh votes in the recent Lok Sabha polls in Haryana, would encourage electorate to show door to corrupt and turncoat politicians who are eyeing Vidhan Sabha through electoral politics.
After the poor performance in Haryana, the AAP had decided not to contest assembly polls in states, including Haryana, and concentrate only in Delhi, where it remained in power for 49 days under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal.
Addressing a press conference, Jaihind, who hails from Rohtak, said during his public interaction in villages while participating in social meetings, he was surprised to know that the local population calls the saffron party a suitcase party.
Quoting Jaihind, an HT report said the way cash-rich colonisers and property dealers were chasing BJP leaders for tickets, the local population has started calling the saffron party as suitcase party.
Urging the electorate to be cautious of candidates of different political parties approaching them in the election season, he said people should confront sitting MLAs or ministers on development they ensured in the last five years in respective constituencies.
He added that the AAP can help people raise voice against “corrupt and turncoat” politicians, if people supply some documents against them.
It may be mentioned that AAP’s nominee for Lok Sabha polls from Sonepat, Jai Singh Thekedar and Anirudh Chautala, grandson of former deputy prime minister Devi Lal, who were staunch supporters of the-then fledgling party, had later switched loyalties to the BJP.
