Faridkot: As per media reports Justice (retd) Jora Singh Commission has started the probe into Behbal Kalan police firing incident.
The commission was appointed on October 15 by the Punjab government to investigate the Oct. 14 police firing in which two Sikhs, namely Gurjeet Singh (Sarawan village) and Krishan Bhagwan Singh (Niamiwala village) were gunned down by the Punjab police. The police had opened fire on Sikhs who were staging a sit in demonstration at a link road (leading to village Behbal Kalan, near Kotkapura-Bathinda road) against incidents of beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib.
It is notable that the commission was required to submit it report within two months, which expired on December 15.
Media reports have noted that for “unknown reasons” the commission did not start it’s probe before the expiry of it’s term.
Representatives of Sikh organisations have termed the commission as an eyewash while accusing the Punjab government for protecting the culprit police officials.
