A report in Punjabi Tribune states that the government is planning install Guriqbal as DSP in Punjab police after granting him special concessions such as exemption from written test as well as relaxation in maximum age limit for the post.

The Tribune (TT) quotes undisclosed sources in the Chief Minister’s Office while reporting that the proposal had come from Capt Amarinder Singh himself.

“It was on the Chief Minister’s nod that the department concerned had sought an application from Guriqbal” the vernacular quotes such sources.

The case will be formally approved at the next Cabinet meeting, notes TT.

It is notable that Punjab CM Beant Singh had unleashed region of state-terror on civilian Sikh population after assuming office in 1992. The period of 1992-95 was marred by mass level atrocities on the civilian Sikh population when thousands were subjected to enforced disappearances, killed in fake/ staged encounters and were cremated as “unclaimed dead bodies”.

Beant Singh was executed by Sikh fighters on August 31, 1995. Execution of CM Beant Singh was a political act arising out of existential concerns of the Sikh panth.
