February 11, 2015 | By

Allahabad: A complaint has reportedly been filed in a local court against US President Barack Obama for allegedly “tarnishing India’s secular image” in his statements.

The complaint filed by one Sushil Kumar Mishra alleges that the US president has “tarnished the image of India which”, according to the complainant, “is a secular country”.

In his complaint moved before the Judicial Magistrate Neelima Singh the complainant Sushil Kumar Mishra has urged the court that US president Barack Obama be prosecuted under Section 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.

The court has fixed February 18 for hearing the matter.

Legal experts are of the view that such a complaint against US president is not maintainable under the Indian law and in wake of matters related to jurisdiction and ‘sovereign immunity’ the complainant is bound to be dismissed.

It is notable that US president Barack Obama had warned Indian government against religious intolrance during his visit to the Indian subcontinent last month.
