Control headworks and serve ultimatum to get cost of waters, Dal Khalsa to Punjab govt

November 17, 2016 | By

Amritsar: Dal Khalsa has termed the resolution adopted by the Punjab assembly for seeking the cost of waters from non-riparian states as a first right step in the right direction to correct the wrongs of the past.

Cautioning the government, the Dal Khalsa said without issuing ultimatum to non-riparian states for repaying the cost within a specific timeframe and controlling the headworks, all efforts may end up in futility.

Notably, Punjab assembly has asked the government to take up the matter with centre, Rajasthan and Delhi to impose royalty on water from Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi since November 11, 1966.

Party head Harpal Singh Cheema and spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said Punjab owes crores of rupees from Rajasthan, Delhi and other non-riparian states for using states river waters. They said the executive and the judiciary of this Hindu-India has always been discriminatory in its approach towards this border state and that the real test of the Punjab rests in establishing its ownership rights on waters and controlling the headworks.

They said Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal should volunteer to give the required amount to Punjab for using its waters. They regretted the silence of Kejriwal on Supreme Court ruling gone against the Punjab on SYL issue.

They said the past record of Akali Dal as well as Congress has been dubious and detrimental to Punjab’s interest.
