Even title of Nanak Shah Fakir movie is objectionable [Video]

The debate surrounding depiction of Sikh Gurus is in focus again, especially in wake of controversy over upcoming movie Nanak Shah Fakir. Nanak Shah Fakir is a movie by Harinder Sikka who claims that the movie depicts the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Ji. The SGPC has already rejected this movie as it violates Sikh traditions under which Sikh Guru Sahib can not be depicted as a character of any play or movie etc.
Sikh Siyasat’s editor Parmjeet Singh talked to Dr. Sewak Singh, Assistant Professor of Religion at Eternal University, Baru Sahib (HP), on the of depiction of Sikh Gurus in movies/ films. Dr. Sewak Singh clarified that violating the pious Sikh traditions under the grab of preaching was neither preaching of religion nor any sort of service. He said that there are numerous other themes on which movies could be made for preaching Sikh religious ethos and Sikh principles but, he asked, why these filmmakers were insisting on making movies on Sikh Gurus that was strictly prohibited under Sikh tradition.
