Mansa (January 21, 2011): Bhai Mandhir Singh, Former President of Sikh Students Federation, was today transferred to Bathinda Jail as Chief Judicial Magistrate (Mansa) D. M. Singla refused to extend his police remand and sent him under judicial custody for 14 days. 02 February is fixed as next date of hearing.
Mandhir Singh, a senior leader of Youth Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani), is framed in dera follower Lilli Kumar’s Murder case. Today S.H.O Sulakhan Singh and Harpal Singh of Mansa police brought Mandhir Singh before the court and urged the court to grant his police remand for more days.
Advocate Ajit Singh Bhangu, council of Mandhir Singh, strongly opposed the extension of police remand. He informed that court that this was nothing but harassment proceedings as Mandhir Singh had nothing to do with this case. He has been falsely implicated. Advocate Bhangu further informed that charge-sheet filed by the police did not even mention the name of Mandhir Singh. He further informed the court that Mandhir Singh is a well educated Sikh youth, holding engineering as well as religious studies degrees. He had contested 2007 assembly election from Balachaur constituency at the ticket of SAD (Amritsar). While concluding his argument Advocate Bhagu maintined that: “There is no logic in extending the police remand”. Convinced with the arguments raised by defence lawyer CJM refused to extend the police remand.
Bhai Harpal Singh Cheema, Secretary General of SAD (Panch Pardhani), Dalshan Singh Jaga Ram Tirath, Daleet Singh, Jarnail Singh, Satnam Singh Bharapur, SSF President Parmjeet Singh Gazi, Makhan Singh (Vice-President), Sewak Singh (Former President) were also present in the court besides many other workers and leaders of Panch Pardhani.
On the other hand arrest of Bhai Mandhir Singh has sparked strong criticism of Punjab Government in Panthic circiles. Dal Khalsa’s political secretary Kanwarpal Singh Bittu and Khalsa Action Committee’s convenor Bhai Mohkam Singh, while talking to SikhSiyast, bitterly criticized the Punjab Government, led by Badal Dal-BJP combine, for targeting Sikh youth for political reasons. Baljinder Singh, President of Ek Noor Khalsa Fauj has also issued a similar statement.
