The Notice to SFJ has been issued under provisions Section 69A as per provision of Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguard for blocking for access of Information by Public) Rules, 2009, under which Government of India may block public access to any URL in the “interest of sovereignty and integrity of India”. US based rights group SFJ has been campaigning to hold Referendum in the state of Punjab to create a sovereign Sikh country.

Dr. S.Sathyanarayanan of Cyber Laws & e-security Division informed the rights group that a meeting of committee for examination of request to block public access to SFJ’s URL is being scheduled on 29th October 2015 in Department of Electronics and Information Technology, New Delhi.

“SFJ’s campaigns of seeking UN recognition for 1984 Sikh Genocide and demanding referendum based on Sikhs’ right to self determination are purely legal and democratic campaigns and protected under UN Charter and Covenants”, stated attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor to SFJ. “After blocking SFJ’s Facebook page, this is yet another attempt by the Government to curtail Sikhs’ voices of dissent”, added Pannun.

It is notable that at the time (Oct. 30, 2015 at 13:43 IST) of publishing this news, the website of the Sikhs For Justice was accessible in India.

As per information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), similar notices have also been sent to some other Sikh websites by the Cyber Law Group of Department of Electronics and Information Technology, New Delhi.
