Amritsar: Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Majitha and Head of AAP’s Punjab state Legal Cell Himmat Singh Shergill yesterday said that AAP’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s statement has been “distorted” to “mislead the people of Punjab”.
In a written statement issued yesterday, Shergill said: “Kejriwal had made it crystal clear time and again that Punjab did not have even a single drop of water to spare for any other state. However certain section of the media distorted his statement for the reasons best known to them”.
He also referred to Arvind Kejriwal’s statement on December 11, 2016 when while interacting with the media at Jagraon the Delhi chief minister had stated that Punjab not only has full right over its waters but will also not be able to spare any for other states.
Notably, Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday (Dec. 14) had maintained that the non-riparian state of Delhi had right over Punjab’s river water.
On being asked by a journalist whether Delhi has rights over Punjab river waters, Delhi CM and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal said “Bilkul Hai Ji. Sab Kush Hai, Sabka Hak Hai, Sabha Hak Hai” (Yes indeed! Everyone has the right).
In a press conference video, available on AAP Punjab’s Facebook page Himmat Shergill was seen saying that Arvind Kejriwal had said so while he has moving towards car. He suggested as if Kejriwal had not heard the question properly.
