June 1, 2017 | By

Fatehgarh Sahib: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) president Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar met Shriomani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann) chief Simranjit Singh Mann recently at Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to discuss with him the issue of June 1984 Ghallughara Samagam.

For past few years the annual Samagam was marred by events of clashes between some groups of Sikhs and the SGPC task force within the Darbar Sahib complex.

A press release by the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) Mann states that the Ghallughara Samagam, for past few years, witnessed violent clashes due to misuse of task force by the previous ruling regime of Punjab.

In this press release, the SAD (Mann) praised SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar for his efforts to ensure that the Ghallughara Samgams are held as per maryada.

Notably, the SGPC chief has held meetings with representatives of various Panthic groups and Sikh political parties to discuss the issue of Ghallughara Samagam with them.

SAD Mann press release also states that S. Simranjit Singh Mann told SGPC chief to withdraw its support from Giani Gurbachan Singh and other Jathedars who were disowned by the Panth after they had granted pardon to Dera Sauda Sirsa chief Gurmit Ram Rahim in September 2015. He said that the SGPC should extend its recognition to Jathedars appointed during “Sarbat Khalsa” (November 11, 2015 Panthic Gathering at village Chabba).
