Media Report Records 25 Deaths Caused by Drugs in Punjab This Month

Chandigarh: Rampant drugs abuse in the state has emerged as a major cause of concerns in recent days. The issue that was simmering in the state for long, erupted once again after some videos of dead bodies of drugs victims went viral over social media. Video showed victims had syringes needled in their body when they died. It was such a hard evidence that there could no denying to the fact of widespread drugs catastrophe  in the state.

A report in 29 June, 2018 edition of Punjabi vernacular named “Punjab Tribune” has recorded as many as 25 deaths in the month of June that are related to drugs abuse.

Punjabi Tribune recorded following drugs related deaths in its’ report:

Taran Tarn District:

June 7: Sukhjinder Singh (25) of Fatehabad died at Goindwal Sahib after injecting drugs in body.

June 8: Avtar Singh (25) of Fatehabad died after taking drugs through injection. His dead body was recovered from railway crossing.

June 9: Gurjit Singh (25) of Baler village died due to injecting drugs.

June 11: Jagjit Singh (19) of Bakipur died after taking drugs though syringe.

June 21: Navnit Singh (23) of Bhai Dhai Wala died after injecting drugs.

June 23: Gurlal Singh (27) of Gurkavind village died due to drugs overdose.

June 24: Gurjant Singh (29) of Aima Khrd (Jhabaal) died after taking drugs through syringe.

Amritsar District:

June 10: NRI Youvraj Singh, who had returned from Cyprus died due to drugs injection in village Dhundrala near Ajnala.

June 18: Anil Singh of Gumtala died after taking drugs though injection.

June 23: Palwinder Singh died under suspicious circumstances. The newspaper notes that it is suspected that he died due to drugs abuse. Report expected to reveal the reasons behind his death was awaited.

June 23: An unidentified youth’s dead body was found in Prem Nagar, who is suspected to have died due to drugs.

June 24: Dead body of Harbhej Singh of Majitha Road was recovered from railways line in Verka. An empty bottle and a syringe was found near his dead body.

Faridkot District:

June 21: Buta Singh (26) of village Nanaksar (near Kotkapura) died. As per his family druggists forcibly administered an injection to him and after placing his deadbody in car, the car was pushed in to a canal. The newspaper report notes that police action in this case was awaited.

June 23: Dead body of Balwinder Singh (22) was found near a garbage dump in Korkapura. A needled syringe was found stuck into his arm vein.

June 25-26: Two neighbours namely Sweety and Sumit died due to drugs.

Ludhiana District:

June 5: Simranjit Singh (24) son of a head constable died in Hargobind Colony. A syringe was found near his dead body.

Firozepur District:

June 26: Makhan Singh (26) of village Sataiwala died due to overdose of drugs.

June 28: Avtar Singh (30) of Khai Feme Ki died due to drugs overdose.

A person named Amrik Singh (45) of village Kamagar reportedly died during de-addiction treatment in Firozepur district few days back.

Gurdaspur:

June 28: Charanjit Singh (21) of Dostpur village near Dera Baba Nanak died due to overdose.

Kulvir Singh of village Bhattian near Kahnuwan died due to drugs overdose.
