Punjab University Students Council Elections Today; Results Expected by Evening

Chandigarh: Elections for Punjab University students council are being held today.Polling began at 9:30 am and will continue till 2pm after which the counting of votes will start and results are expected by the evening.

As per reports University was witnessing four-cornered contest between Students For Society (SFS), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), and Student Organization of India (SOI) this time. There are 15,300 eligible voters this time with three departments- UIET, UILS and Laws counting for more than five thousand votes. This year, 162 polling booths have beet set up across all departments in the north and south campuses.

Punjab University is in Chandigarh and students elections are held in PU annually.

It is notable that students elections remain banned in Punjab’s universities and colleges since 1984.
