Punjab University Students to Remember Victims of Sikh Genocide 1984

Chandigarh: The students at Punjab University in Chandigarh will be remembering victims of the Sikh Genocide 1984 today. The students have announced to hold a commemoration to mark the 33th anniversary of the heinous genocide in which thousands of innocent Sikhs were reduced to ashes throughout India in November 1984.

An announcement issued for the PU students in this regard, over social media reads: “The November 1984 genocide of Sikhs in the Indian capital of Delhi and other major cities on the directions of the then Indian State is one scary episode in the history that can never be forgotten. Remembering the genocide becomes even more important when the perpetrators of the massacre are not punished or even held guilty. Forgetting such vicious acts lays the foundation for the next genocide and the motives of those who are asking to forget this episode can be understood very well from it”.

The announcement further says: “As students, it is our responsibility to raise our voice against such barbaric acts. Students of Panjab University, on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Sikh genocide, will be remembering the victims by standing on all the gates and roundabouts of the varsity while holding written messages from 7:30 am to 9:00 am on 1/11/2011”.
