Seminar Report: Historians did not do justice with the Gahdar Movement

Patiala, Punjab (April 07, 2013): Gadhar Movement was one of the historic movements of early twentieth century. It was started by Indian migrants in America and Canada with a view to oust the British imperial power from India and attain the freedom. More than ninety percent participants to this movement were the Sikhs of Punjab.

This year marks the century of Gadhar Party. Sikh Students Federation held a seminar on Gadhar movement to observe the century of the Gadhar Lehar/Movement. The seminar was held at Kalaa Bhawan in Punjabi University Patiala on April 04, 2013.

This seminar was largely attended by University students, research fellows, lecturers and professors besides other participants.

Professor Harjinder Singh Walia, head of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication welcomed the speakers to the Seminar. S. Rajwinder Singh Rahi shared his views on “Central Role of Gurudwaras in Gadhar Movement”. Dr. Darhsn Singh Tatla presented his paper on “Heritage of the Gadhar – Contemporary relevance”. S. Ajmer Singh shared his views on “Myth and reality of historiography of the Gadhar Movement”.

Dr. Jaspal Singh attended the seminar as chief guest and also shared his views. S. Parmjeet Singh Gazi extended the vote of thanks at the end of the seminar. During the Seminar the stage was conducted by S. Gurpartap Singh, President of Punjabi University unit of SSF.

During this seminar many ignored aspects of the Gadhar movement were unearthed by the speakers.
