Chandigarh/ Punjab (January 06, 2014): The media persons reportedly questioned Punjab’s deputy minister Sukhbir Badal after the recent allegation by Jagdish Bhola against Punjab’s cabinet minister Bikram Majithia. Jagish Bhola, who is facing criminal charges in a high profile drugs racket case, told media persons during after one of his court appearances that Bikram Majithia was also involved in drugs smuggling.

When some media persons sought the response of Sukhbir Badal in this matter, he said that a lot of political angles were coming in now. He said that the issue was being now turned against their (Badal Dal) government.

He further said that it was their government which arrested Jagdish Bhola and questioned that why would they arrest someone if they were supporting him.

On being asked that Jagdish Bhola was demanding CBI investigation in drugs racket from the day of his arrest and he had again repeated his demand, Sukhbir Badal escaped to offer any answer.

“Let us finish this (the matter of press conference), I won’t discuss these type of criminals” he said.

Notably, in this press conference Sukhbir Badal was accompanied by Bikram Majithia who is brother in law (wife’s brother) of Sukhbir Badal.

A video of the press conference reportedly captured by Jatinder Sabharwal has been shared by bilingual online news portal – Punjab Spectrum over YouTube.

It may be recalled that Jagdish Bhola, one of the prime accused facing changes of drugs trafficking, claimed on January 06, 2014 that Punjab cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia was involved in the drug racket recently busted by the state police.

“Majithia is the one who is running this racket, he is the mastermind” Jagdish Bhola reportedly said, while talking to media-persons in the court complex where he was produced.

Jagdish Bhola was today brought before the court after the expiry of his judicial custody and the court reportedly extended his judicial custody till January 20.

“I named Bikram Majithia during my interrogation by the investigating agencies. Soon thereafter, my interrogation was stopped. Bikram Majithia was informed about the development on the phone,” Jagdish Bhola reportedly told media persons.

Jagdish Bhola, a former deputy superintendent of police (DSP), had on December 20, 2013 claimed that three cabinet ministers were involved in the drug racket and he was willing to name them if the investigation was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Following his claims, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had even dared Jagdish Bhola to name the ministers allegedly involved.

Jagdish Bhola was arrested on November 11, 2013. He has number of cases pending against him, including illegal possession and supply of drugs, illegal possession of weapons and forgery under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), respectively.
