Amritsar, Punjab (January 24, 2014): As per information Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has welcomed the recent decision taken by US military administration to allow Sikh soldiers to wear turbans.
Amritsar, Punjab (January 15, 2014): The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) probe panel, which had been to Patna Sahib to investigate into the January 07 violent clash at Takht Sri Patna Sahib, has submitted its report to SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar and Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.

It is notable that SGPC is a statutory body in India and it's prime task is to manage the affairs of Historic Sikh Gurudwaras in Punjab and adjoining states of Haryana, Himachal Pardesh and Chandigarh.

Amritsar, Punjab (June 26, 2013): It is learnt that on June 26, 2013 the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) announced the formation of a three member panel to investigate the thrashing of IAS officer, Kahan Singh Pannu at Gobind Dham in Uttarakhand. The incident had reportedly taken place on June 22; as some persons beat up IAS Kahan Singh Pannu and removed his turban.
Lahore, Pakistan (June 21, 2013): As per certain media reports in yet another disappointing incident, a land mafia in Pakistani has sought for the illegal selling of land falling under the premises of a Sikh Gurdwara. The 2 story building of Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Sahiwal is feared to be bulldozed any time during the upcoming week. The Gurdwara is located in the commercial zone at a distance of 250 km from Sahiwal and it will be illegally sold to construct a plaza in its place.
Amritsar, Punjab (May 06, 2013): The Sant Samaj, led by Damdami Taksal (Chowk Mehta) chief Baba Harman Singh, organized a march from headquarters of Damdami Taksal to Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and submitted a memorandum to the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib.

Avtar Singh Makkar said “[t]his is judicial murder”. “I reiterate that there are two sets of laws, a separate one for minorities. On one side death penalty is given to Bhullar on the basis of merely his confessional statement that could be given by anyone under duress and there are no witnesses who give statement against Bhullar, on the other side seven death sentences of a butcher like Kishori Lal, who murdered more than 30 persons with knife, are commuted” said SGPC Chief.
