Website of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib launched

Amritsar, Punjab (April 01, 2013): It is learnt that an exclusive website of the Sri Akal Takhat Sahib was launched from the Sri Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) complex on April 01, 2013.

As per information the a brief function was held at Sri Akal Takhat Sahib Secretariat. The website was reportedly launched by Giani Gurbachan Singh. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President S. Avtar Singh Makkar, senior vice-president Raghujit Singh Virk and several other officials of the SGPC were also present on this occasion.

“Keeping in view the global demands of the Sikhs, we decided to have a website only for the Akal Takht,” S. Avtar Singh Makkar reportedly said on this occasion.

As per information it was decided that the Akal Takhat Sahib on March 25 during a meeting of the Singh Sahibs.

The home page of the website has photographs of the Golden Temple and the Akal Takht. All information relating to the Darbar Sahib and the Akal Takhat Sahib will be available at the click of a mouse.

The website has seperate “English” and “Punjabi” sections. Punjabi section of the website is not readable on mobile devices as the developers have used some .TTF font instead of Punjabi Unicode font this is compatible with most of the prevelant internet-browsers.

“The website contains a list of all the Jathedars of the Akal Takht since its inception. It also contains details of all hukamnamas (edicts) issued by the Takht, besides details of all the ‘sandesh’ (messages) issued to the Sikh community. It also provides details of all the honors and titles given by the Akal Takht to Sikh personalities in different fields, along with their photographs and profiles” YesPunjab.Com has reported.

As per information the website has been designed by ANG IT-Solutions of Amritsar. They were reportedly honored by the Akal Takht Jathedar on the occasion.

The website designers have also incorporated a “feedback form”, on which suggestions and even complaints can be forwarded to the Akal Takht secretariat.

Sikhs can send their suggestions and even complaints through the website, which was needed to establish contacts with the ‘sangat’, said Giani Gurbachan Singh, Akal Takht Jathedar.
