Dal Khalsa Writes to French President Prior to His Visit to India on Jan 26

January 20, 2024 | By

Amritsar : Taking a significant step, the Dal Khalsa has shot off a missive to French President who is slated to be the chief guest of India’s 75th Republic Day celebrations on January 26, claiming that at this stage, when the Indian government’s role into transnational repression is under world scrutiny “your acceptance to be the chief guest has acutely disappointed the Sikhs worldwide,”.

In the letter sent to President of France Mr. Emmanuel Macron through French Ambassador to India, the Dal Khalsa leader said, “Now that you have decided and perhaps there is no looking back, we urge you to talk to your Indian counterpart Mr Narendra Modi during your visit to New Delhi on the subject of transnational targeted killings of Sikhs on foreign soil, implementing equal prisoners norms and laws in the country, restoring respect for human rights beside amending India’s constitution to give restless people of various nationalities the right to self-determination in accordance with UN covenants. The organisation also urged the visiting dignitary to address the unresolved identity symbol problem Sikhs have been facing in France since long.

“Sikhs are facing a live threat to their existence and identity, not only in Punjab and India but also in other countries referring to the targeted extrajudicial killings by Indian secret service agents on foreign soil, said Party’s secretary for political affairs Kanwar Pal Singh in his letter.

The letter by pro-freedom Sikh group reiterated that the people of Punjab, are in the midst of struggle to regain an independent foothold in the comity of nations.

He further wrote that “it’s important to share that while India celebrates its Republic Day, minorities especially Sikhs, who were suffering under its fascist policies, were observing January 26 as Black Republic Day”.

Referring to their groups protest March at Moga on Jan 26, he further wrote this would be a day of peaceful protests and remembrance of the Constitutional injustices and discriminations unleashed on minorities.

Your presence at India’s Republic Day celebrations is, therefore, deeply hurtful to those suppressed nationalities who continue to seek justice and recognition of their rights and freedom struggles, reads Dal Khalsa letter.

However, we still hope that France will not overlook the plight of the Sikh community -within India and globally, and it would stand up to its commitment to equality, liberty and fraternity.

The letter mentions the cold-blooded murder of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar followed by US judiciary indicting an Indian national for plotting the assassination of US citizen Gurpatwant Singh Pannu.

As per Dal Khalsa, ever since the lid was blown off, India is in the dock. India’s inconsistent responses to these incidents has only added to our apprehensions and fears, said he.

Dal Khalsa letter has also expressed its opposition to the carte blanche endorsement of India’s attempt to be a member of the UN Security Council by the government of France. Clearly, there was a lack of comprehension of the possible damage and destruction India can cause to the rights of minorities and nationalities and South Asian peace, should this happen, said Mr Singh.

The letter informed French president that present day regime led by Narendra Modi is inspired by Nazi ideology.
