Amritsar, Punjab (March 10, 2013): According to media reports the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has decided to construct a serai or niwas for Afghan Sikh families, who were reportedly displaced from Afghanistan following the internal strife in that country.

Amritsar, Punjab (January 18, 2013): As per reprots the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to get Sikh history re-written following research in this regard. As per information the SGPC has constituted a five-member committee, including Punjabi University, Patiala Vice-Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh and historian Dr J. S. Grewal. SGPC Secretary Roop Singh will be the co-ordinator of the panel.
Amritsar/Ludhiana, Punjab (January 15, 2013): Opposing participation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) in the Kumbh mela, the Dal Khalsa has slammed SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar for succumbing to the pressure from the Shiromani Akali Dal Badal on this issue. SAD (Badal) is the ruling party in Punjab that runs a coalition government Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), that has it's ideological base in Hindutva ideology. It is notable that SGPC is currently under the control of SAD (Badal).

He was sacked from the post of Vice-chancellor of Punjabi Univeristy, Patiala in 2002 due to criminal charges he was facing at that time. When Shiormani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) decided to open a University named after Sikh Scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib (ji), Ahluwalia was given the responsibility to prepare the bule prints and superwise it's establishment.
Fatehgarh Sahib (August 02, 2011): As per certain media reports the assailant of Dr. Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia got the attention of newly inaugurated Guru Granth Sahib University's Vice Chancellor by calling him "VC Sahib" before firing at him. The assailant fired first round in air and second toward VC's head, after grabbing attention by calling 'VC Sahib, SSP of Fatehgarh Sahib, Ranbir Singh Khatra is reported to have told media persons.
