First Chronicler of 1947 Partition Prof. Kirpal Singh Dies at 95

Prof. Kirpal Singh, noted historian and the first chronicler of 1947 partition of Punjab, who started building an archive in 1954, passed away today. He was 95.

SGPC general house today reelected Gobind Singh Longowal as its president. Notably, SGPC president and executive is elected every year. The election however in present scenario is a mere formality as final authority to appoint president of SGPC is exercised by Sukhbir Singh Badal as president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) which controls the SGPC. 

Akal Takht Sahib Honours Bhai Gurmej Singh, Dr. Kirpal Singh and Bhai Amrik Singh Zakhmi

Amritsar, Punjab (Febraury 25, 2014): It is learnt that Akal Takht Sahib, on February 17, honoured Bhai Gurmej Singh (former Hazoori Ragi of Darbar Sahib, Amritsar) with the title of ‘Sikh Ratan’.

Akal Takht to honour Dr. Kirpal Singh with title of National Professor of Sikhism

Chandigarh/ Punjab (January 18, 2014): It is learnt that the Akal Takht has decided to bestow the title of National Professor of Sikhism on Dr Kirpal Singh, a Sikh historian and author of several books. The title will be bestowed upon him early next week by Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib.
