U.S. citizen Ravinderjit Singh Gogi remains indefinitely detained in India after spending two months behinds bars without seeing a judge, but just two days after seven U.S. Congressional representatives wrote to the State Department on his behalf, officials from the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi finally visited the American citizen imprisoned in Ludhiana, a major city in India’s Punjab state.
Dal Khalsa today appreciated and thanked members of the assembly of California state of the US for expressing solidarity with aggrieved Sikh community and holding Indian government officials responsible for failing to prevent the killings of Sikhs in Nov 1984 and urging New Delhi to admit its culpability.
In an historic and unprecedented move, the California State Assembly has recognized the responsibility of the Indian government in the rape, torture and murder of thousands of Sikhs across India in November 1984. Assembly Concurrent Resolution 34 (ACR 34), co-authored by Sacramento area assemblymembers Jim Cooper (pictured to the lef), Kevin McCarty, Jim Gallagher and Ken Cooley, states “government and law enforcement officials organized, participated in, and failed to intervene to prevent the killings.”
Two organizations—the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) and a group calling itself California Parents for the Equalization of Educational Materials (CAPEEM)—are proposing to deny that Sikhism is opposed to idol worship and the caste system. Incredibly, they have even attempted to rewrite the history of Guru Nanak, denying that the founder of the Sikh religion “challenged the authority of the Brahmin and the power of the Mughal empire.”
For the fourth year, California state legislature declared November as Sikh American Awareness and Appreciation Month “to afford all Californians the opportunity to understand, recognize, and appreciate the rich history and shared principles of Sikh Americans.”
Sacramento, California: After the issue of 1984 violence against Sikhs in India haunted the Congressional election of Ami Bera, Rights group “Sikhs For Justice” (SFJ) have now approached Hon. Jerry Brown, Governor, State of California asking him to declare 1984 anti-sikh violence as “Genocide”. The State of California has the highest Sikh population in the United States and has recently made 1984 issue a part of mid-term Congressional election debate.

Sacramento, California: Media reports suggest that the Sikh genocide of November 1984 in India is turning to an issue of concern in California election race this year, as certain Sikh sections in California have developed reservations about Democratic Rep. Ami Bera as later he had refused to acknowledge the involvement of the Indian government in the brutal massacres of Sikhs 3o years ago.
Fremont, CA: Two years ago, California Governor Jerry Brown signed AB1964, or the California Workplace Religious Freedom Act (WRFA), into law. AB1964 prohibits religion-based segregation in the workplace and strengthens the legal standard for religious accommodations in favor of employees and job applicants. AB1964, which went into effect in January 2013, provides workers in California the nation’s strongest protections against religious discrimination.

Fremont, CA (May 4, 2014): In March 2014, the Sikh Coalition released a report on the endemic bullying of Sikh school children in America. The report, entitled "Go Home Terrorist" – A Report on Bullying Against Sikh American School Children, found that the majority of Sikh children, just over 50%, endure school bullying. This report has garnered media attention on both the national and local level.
Santa Clara, California (May 04, 2014): It is learnt that the United Sikhs and the California chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CA) recently announced to file three complaints with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) against Boomers! amusement park, a subsidiary of Palace Entertainment Ltd., for barring park attendees wearing religious head coverings from its Go-Kart rides.

Bakersfield, California (January 03, 2014): As per certain media reports a 45-year-old Sikh truck driver was shot dead by police in the city of Bakersfield in southern California on the morning of December 29, 2013.
California, US (November 19, 2013): As per information available with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN), human rights bodies and Sikh groups such as Sikhs for Justice and All Indian Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) have kicked a world-wide signature campaign in support of “Sikh Genocide 1984” complaint that was filed with United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) on November 01, 2013.
Fresno, California (October 22, 2013): It is learnt that a judge on October 21, 2013 observed that a homeless man is legally incompetent to stand trial in Fresno County Superior Court in connection with the May attack on an elderly Sikh man.
Davis, California (October 16, 2013): As he has for the past two years, UC Davis student Harsimran Singh arrived at the local Amtrak station early Saturday morning to take a bus to Sacramento, where he would then board a train to visit his family in Selma, south of Fresno.

Los Angles, California, USA (August 7, 2013): On July 30, 2013, at 11:41 AM, officers from the Jurupa Valley Police Department responded to a report of vandalism at the Gurdwara, located in Riverside, near Los Angeles. Sometime overnight, vandals had spray-painted hate messages on the property calling Sikhs “terrorist”—in one case misspelled.
Washington, US (August 01, 2013): The Sikh leaders in the US and American Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (AGPC) has termed the spraying of wall that surrounds a Sikh Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) in Jurupa Valley with the word `terrorist’ as an unfortunate incident.
