Peshawar, Pakistan (August 20, 2014): According to media reports, Commission for Peace and Minorities Rights (CPMR) on Monday (August 18) criticized the government for its lethargic attitude to provide foolproof security to minorities and their worship places in the country, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas of Pakistan.
Members from Punjab reportedly voiced anguish in Indian Parliament (Rajya Sabha) on August 12 over repeated attacks on Sikhs in United States and Pakistan and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up the matter with them to ensure their safety and security.
“This is not the first time our community was attacked in KP,” said Singh. “The Sikh community in the province is under constant threat ... many Sikh families have left the area over lack of security.”
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has directed police to improve security the Sikh Gurdwaras, homes and businesses of Sikhs as well as those of other religious minorities, The News reported on August 7.
The Global Minorities Alliance (GMA) has expressed grief over the targeted killing of a Sikh man in Pakistan. Jagmohan Singh, a young Sikh man, was killed on Wednesday (August 06) in the north-western city of Peshawar, Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). The tragic incident has angered already beleaguered minority community of Pakistan.
