Mansa (October 16, 2009) Mansa police is once again accused for ‘hostage taking’ as it is alleged by wife and daughter of Sirdar Gurbachan Singh Patwari of Jhanduke village that Gurbachan Singh is in illegal custody of Mansa Police for more than two days along his son Avtar Singh. Bibi Ranjeet Kaur, wife of Gurbachan Singh informed that duo were picked up by Mansa Police’s SHO Jasvir Singh at around 9:45 AM on October 14 and are not released yet. “Police is not tendering any information regarding whereabouts of my son and husband.” Ranjeet Kaur told reporters. “It has been more than two days since their enforced disappearance and we have no information regarding their whereabouts.” She added. It is notable that Ranjit Kaur and her daughter are left alone at their home and are scarred by police action.
She informed that police was inquiring about her elder son Jagtar Singh Jhanduke who worked as District President of Sikh Students Federation for some time.
Advocate Ajit Singh Bhangu informed SikhSiyasat Network that law does not permit Police to keep someone in illegal detention to force appearance of some other person but this illegal tactic is widely used by police in Punjab. ‘This is a clear case of violation fundamental right of personal life and liberty, as is enshrined in Article 21 of Indian Constitution as Police has failed to follow the procedure established by Law i.e Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.’ said Advocate Bhangu.
