US lawsuit against Sonia Gandhi: Congress lawyer sees improper practice by Sikhs for Justice

October 24, 2013 | By

New York, USA (October 24, 2013): According to certain media reports Congress Party’s council US – Ravi Batra said Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) had indulged in “improper judge-and-venue-shopping” while filing lawsuits against the leaders in several federal courts. He was referring to recent lawsuits filed by the Sikhs for Justice and the victims/survivors of Sikh Genocide 1984 in US Federal Courts.

An Indian-American lawyer representing the Congress party has accused a Sikh group of resorting to improper practices while filing lawsuits in the U.S. against leaders like Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the November 1984.

Lawyer Ravi Batra said Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) had indulged in “improper judge-and-venue-shopping” while filing lawsuits against the leaders in several federal courts.

According to media reports Ravi Batra said in a statement filed in the court of the Eastern District of New York that contrary to the SFJ claims, Sonia Gandhi was not served court summons during her reported treatment at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital here last month.

Appearing as counsel for Sonia Gandhi, Ravi Batra said the Congress leader “reserves all of her rights to contest any assertion of jurisdiction or attempts by plaintiffs to pursue this matter, including, by way of motion to dismiss for a lack of subject-matter jurisdiction, lack of personal jurisdiction for insufficient process, insufficient service of process.”

It is notable that in November 1984 thousands of Sikhs were brutally massacred in a series of state sponsored massacres that were part of wider genocidal plan. Congress party’s participation, in particular, in these massacres is hidden from no one. For last 29 years various attempts by the victims/survivors of the genocide to secure justice were subverted by various Congress government. Moreover the Congress party and the Indian state openly patronized and rewarded the culprits of June 1984 with high political seats. The Indian judiciary suffered an extensive failure to nail the culprits of Sikh genocide 1984.

Now, when, certain Sikh diaspora sections have started scratching the true face of the “world’s largest democracy”, it has started alleging that the Sikh diaspora is indulged in “improper practices” while filing lawsuit against Indian leaders in the US courts.
