3 NIA Officials Accused of Blackmailing, Demanding 2 Crores Bribe

August 20, 2019 | By

Chandigarh: A few weeks back when the Indian government extended unbridled powers to India’s centralised investigation and prosecution agency NIA, many sections raised concerns that these powers will be abused in various ways- including abuse by officials for personal gains. What was merely an apprehension few days back is now backed by the fact that three NIA officials are facing departmental inquiry for allegedly blackmailing a businessman and demanding huge bribe for not naming in a case.

It is learnt that the NIA is probing allegations against three officers, including a superintendent of police (SP) and two junior officers, that they demanded Rs 2 crore from a Delhi-based businessman for not naming him in a case involving Hafiz Saeed.

As per reports the NIA has transferred the officers out of the counter-terrorism agency until the matter is ‘thoroughly examined’.

“It doesn’t mean that the allegations are correct. The findings will be clear only when the probe is over”, an NIA official was quotes as saying by The Economic Times (ET).

Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) has learnt that the concerned SP was earlier the chief investigation officer of the 2007 Samjhauta blast case.
