Acting Jathedars summon Sukhbir Badal to explain inaction in Bargari and Behbal Kalan cases

June 18, 2016 | By

Amritsar: The acting jathedars, appointed during the Panthic gathering of Nov. 10, 2015 at village Chabba, yesterday (on June 17) made a sudden appearance at the Akal Takht Sahib and passed resolution seeking a detailed report from Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal by July 20 on Bargari beadbi incident and Behbal Kalan firing, in which two Sikh protesters were killed.

According to Hindustan Times (HT), [t]he sudden entry of the three ‘jathedars’ led by ‘acting Jathedar’ of Akal Takht Dhyan Singh Mand took many by surprise and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committe (SGPC) task force, along with cops, swung into action and reached the spot. While they looked on in panic, Darbar Sahib manager Sulakhan Singh also reached there.

“The presence of parallel ‘jathedars’ gave a tough time to the SGPC while members of its task force were seen exchanging heated arguments with mediapersons, who were trying to cover the development”, HT report notes.

After paying obeisance at the Darbar Sahib Bhai Dhian Singh Mand, Bhai Baljit Singh Daduwal and Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala, entered the Akal Takht and spent around 20 minutes there and held a brief meeting. Later, interacting with the media at the Darbar Sahib plaza, Bhai Dhian Singh Mand read out the  resolutions reportedly written on a parallel letter head of the Akal Takht Sahib and signed by the trio.

“No accused have so far been held in connection with the sacrilege incidents held at different places, including Burj Jawahar Singh Wala and Bargari, and killing of Sikh protesters in firing at Behbal Kalan. Sikh masses are furious over the inaction. Being home minister of Punjab, Sukhbir Singh badal is being directed to submit the investigation report of these incidents till July 20”, the statement reads.

The ‘jathedars’ also summoned members of the management committee of a gurdwara at Virginia (US) on August 20 for altering Sikh maryada during ‘Amrit Sanchar’.
