Avtar Singh Makkar still confidant that Hooda can not create HSGPC

July 8, 2014 | By

Kaithal, Haryana (July 08, 2014): Two days after the Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced to form the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGPC), SGPC head Avtar Singh Makkar has warned the government against “dividing the Sikh community” for the sake of political gains. He said that the SGPC leadership would not tolerate this and Haryana CM should not live in an illusion that he would succeed in creating the HSGPC.

Avtar Singh Makkar stated that he would shortly meet Indian Home Minister in this regard.

Criticising Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Avtar Singh Makkar said “real” Sikhs do not endorse the move and they didn’t even attend the function of the Congress party. He said that whenever Congress government was at the helm of affairs, the Sikh community suffered atrocities.

He said that politicians who endorsed HSGPC were the enemies of the community. On the charge of stepmotherly behaviour by SGPC with the Haryana Sikhs, he said that charge held true to the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government, which was not granting CLUs (change of land use) permissions to schools and colleges run by SGPC.

He also raised objection to gifting of the replica of the Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) to Bhupinder Singh Hooda at Kaithal convention held by HSGPC (ad hoc).
