Talwandi Sabo, Punjab (August 03, 2014): After the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) withdrew ticket to Punjabi singer Balkar Sidhu, the latter filed papers as an Independent candidate for the Talwandi Sabo by-elections on August 02. Earlier, Balkar Sidhu held a meeting with his supporters for over three hours before deciding to file the papers.
He said the decision was taken unanimously after a meeting with his supporters, including AAP workers who, he claimed, had assured to support him despite the cancellation of the ticket.
“I have been defamed by AAP leaders who acted in haste to cancel my ticket following baseless allegations of human trafficking. AAP has many black sheep who are tarnishing its image. None of the senior AAP leader was pleased over my nomination,” the singer alleged.
Balkar said he went to party convener Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in Delhi where party leader Prashant Bhushan informed him about the development.
“I was not even allowed to put forth my defence. Nobody even listened to Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann’s comments over the allegations. The decision to cancel my ticket was dictatorial,” he alleged.
