Hoshiarpur, Punjab (February 15, 2014): Sikh Youth of Punjab (SYP) has asked the Jathedar Avtar Singh to resign from the headship of SGPC in order to uphold the honour the exalted office.

Taking exception over the public rebuke to Avtar Singh Makkar by Punjab CM, the office bearers of the youth body Noblejit Singh, Manjit Singh and Paramjit Singh said Parkash Singh Badal while terming the SGPC head a liar has downgraded the importance of premier institution.

Pertinently, Badal in a reaction said that Akali Dal had nothing to do with the construction of June 1984 Martyr’s Memorial and blamed Makkar for speaking lie.

They said no one believe in Badal’s words.”It would be preposterous to believe that Makkar could take any independent decision let alone raising the memorial, given the fact that Badals have yielded all powers in their hands- be it of political or religious institutions of Sikhs”.

They said either Badal should tender apology or Makkar should quit. Moreover, after losing his mentor’s trust, there is no reason for Makkar to remain glued on the post.

They said Delhi CM Kejriwal has taken high moral ground in resigning from the office. “At least unlike Badals, he tried to practice what he has been professing”. “Kejriwal has exposed corporate people including Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani, who were running the successive governments through back channels. And taking head-on with business tycoons is not a small thing in the present build-up political system”, they pointed out.

They said Punjab’s mainstream politicians are harming Sikh cause and the people who vote or support them were also responsible for degradation that has crept in our society.
