Capt Amarinder Seeks Advise on How to Deal with 2015 Beadbi Cases and Jora Singh Commission Report.

Chandigarh: The Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has pulled out the Justice Jora Singh inquiry commission’s report on the tragic event of beadbi of Shri Guru Grandh Sahib back in 2015 at district Faridkot in which two unarmed Sikhs were gunned down by the Punjab police, its the same report which was pushed under the wraps by the previous Badal Government. Capt Amarinder Singh while inviting legal advice has asked whether the facts and evidence mentioned in the report are enough to nail the guilty.

As reported by the media the Chief Minister’s office has forwarded the file to the Attorney General Atul Nanda asking for his legal advice over this matter.

The previous Badal-BJP government failed to make the findings of the report public and didn’t indicted any officer responsible for the  incident, Instead tried to brush off the incident by announcing compensation to the victims.

“We all know Jora Commission report did not answer most of the questions. We want all those answered and guilty brought to justice. If we are on legal sound footing to reopen the inquiry we should not waste any time. We are just waiting for the report”, Indian Express (IE) quoted senior functionary of the government as saying.

The SAD (Badal) BJP government in haste under public pressure constituted the one man commission headed by retired Judge in December 2015 following the incident of beadbi of the sarops of Shri Guru Granth Sahib and firing on unarmed Sikh protesters at Bargadi village.

It was during the election campaining that the Aam Adami Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal along with party leader H S Phoolka made the documents of the report public. He had alleged that the then deputy Chief minister Sukhbir Badal and his home department of not taking appropriate action against the guilty police officers. He further stated that a district police chief was indicted by the commission report, reads a quote in an English vernacular.

The commisiion had probed three incidents of beadbi in Faridkot district in 2015 and incident at Bargadi and Behbal kalan. The 51 page reports has recorded te statement of atleast 206 witnesses, said media sources.

While the commission report had recommended Rs 25 lakhs ex-gratia each to Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjeet Singh, who dided in the police firing Rs 10 lakhs each was announced for Ajit Singh and Beant Singh who were suffered serious injuries.
