Mumbai, India (March 19, 2013): It is learnt that Hindi entertainment channel Colors TV has changed the title of new serial from “Gurbani” to “Baani – Ishq Ka Kalma”. The show went on air on March 19, 2013 on Colors TV channel.

“Through this show we aim to enlighten people, to create an awareness that getting married to an NRI doesn’t necessarily guarantee a happy marriage, a luxurious and comfortable lifestyle,” said Prashant Bhatt, programming head of the channel, in an interview.

It is notable that various Sikh organization and personalities had objected to the title of “Gurbani” – Gurbani is a sacred word for the Sikhs.

As per information available with Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) the representatives of the channel did not accepted their fault but claimed that there was nothing wrong in naming the serial as “Gurbani”. But when the issue took a serious turn as Jalandhar police registered a FIR against the channel under section 295A of Indian Penal Code, the channel took a U-turn and announced that it would change the title.

Now the channel has named the serial as “Baani” but it’s just like a trick because for Sikhs “Baani” and “Gurbani” are synonyms.
