Dera Sirsa Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Convicted in Ram Chander Chhatrapati Murder Case

Panchkula/Chandigarh: A CBI special court today convicted Dera Sauda Sirsa (DSS))’s convicted chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim journalist in Ram Chander Chhatrapati murder case.

Ram Chandar Chhatrapati, who was editor of Poora Sach newspaper, was shot at a point blank range at his residence in Sirsa on October 24, 2002, months after he published an anonymous letter narrating how women finding solace in the dera as sadhvis were sexually harassed and raped by the dera chief. Ram Chandar Chhatrapati had succumbed to his injuries a few days later.

Pronouncing verdict CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh held Gurmeet Ram Rahim guilty in this case today. The administration had made tight security arrangement in wake of today’s judgements.

The court has fixed 17 January as next date in this case to announce quantum of punishment.
