Gurdaspur: Former Cabinet Minister of Punjab and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) core committee member Sucha Singh Langah was yesterday (Sept. 29) booked for rape on the complaint of a widow, who alleged she had been repeatedly raped since 2009 when she first met him.

According to The Tribune, Sucha Singh Langah, chief of SAD’s Gurdaspur district unit for the past 32 years, has resigned from all party posts as well as the SGPC, and will surrender before a local court on Saturday.

The Gurdaspur police filed a case under 376 (rape), 384 (extortion), 420 (cheating and dishonesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The victim had reportedly handed over complaint along with a Video to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on Thursday (Sept. 28).

The complainant, who lost her husband in 2008, wrote: “He kept telling me he would help me get a job in the Vigilance Department on compassionate grounds. I met him for the first time in 2009 after which he regularly met me alone at Kisan Bhawan, Chandigarh. He would tell me since he wielded considerable influence, he could do anything to me and my family. He would call me to unknown places and rape me. He would also extort money. I have attached a video to ensure that my complaint carries enough weight.”

The woman also alleged she had paid Langah Rs 25.50 lakh after selling her agriculture land at her native village Sohal in Gurdaspur.

Meanwhile, Sucha Singh Langah claimed it was a case of political vendetta. He said he and his colleagues had met the DGP on August 8 and complained against seven SHOs in Gurdaspur district who had registered 200 FIRs against SAD workers. “Since then, the state machinery has been working against me”, he claimed.
