Falcons Primary School
Leicester, United Kingdom: Leicester’s first Sikh free school, Falcons’ Primery, has reportedly been granted “go-ahead”. The school’s punding was withdrawn by the Department of Education. After which a meeting was held between Akaal Trust; local MP Keith Vaz and schools minister Lord Nash.
A protest was held by parents and pupils after funding was withdrawn forcing the school to stay shut.
Department For Education, in a recent statement, said “We continue to support the idea of a Sikh ethos school in Leicester and have been working closely with the Trust of Falcons Primary to see if we can open the school soon. The Trust must meet a number of strict conditions before this can happen – for example on staffing, governance and pupil numbers – but good progress has already been made”.
