Lt Col Shrikant Prashant Purohit who was granted bail by the Supreme Court of India (SCI) is an accused in both Malegaon and Samjhauta Express blast cases.
As per a report reported by Daily News Analysis (DNA) Purohit is likely to report back to the unit from where he was arrested. His suspension will be reviewed subsequently. He will continue to get 75% of the salary and his activities will be subjected to restrictions imposed by the court. For the last nine years he was behind bars it is after the bail order passed by the SCI that he will be out for the first time since his arrest.
In 2009, Lt Col Shrikant Prashant Purohit was suspended from the service after being accused in the Malegaon blast that took place on September 29, 2008 killing seven people. He was arrested along with Hindutva leader Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, who was given clean chit by the NIA earlier this year, media reports said.
Moreover, it important to mention here that ever since Modi lead pro-hindutva BJP came to power in May 2014, all the Hindutva activists accused of criminal conspiracy are either released on bail or given clean chit by the respective investigating authorities. First it was Pragya Thakur followed by Lt Col Prashant Purohit.
