Petition on Gurmeet Pinky’s revelation dismissed by High Court

April 8, 2016 | By

Chandigarh: A petition moved by niece of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and another widow of a Sikh youth killed by Punjab police in fake encounters was withdrawn from the High Court yesterday. The petition was moved few months ago in Punjab and Haryana High Court after a former cop had revealed details of fake encounter killings conducted by Punjab police during mid-1980s to 1990s period.

The petition also contained affidavit of Gurmeet Pinky in which he had expressed willingness to depose in this case. The petition was yesterday dismissed as withdrawn.

Gurmeet Pinky’s affidavit was attached as an annexure to a petition filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court through Advocate Rajvinder Singh Bains for bringing the alleged killings under the judicial scanner.

As the matter came up for resumed hearing before Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain on April 7, the counsel for the petitioners prayed for withdrawal of the petition for filing it again with better particulars. “Dismissed as withdrawn. Liberty granted,” the court asserted.

It may be recalled that Gurmeet Pinky had retracted from his statements few weeks ago.
