Gurdaspur, Punjab (March 30, 2013): Sikh body, All India Sikh Students Federation (Peer Mohammad) has announced an annual scholarship for three students of Beant Engineering College, Gurdaspur in the memory of Shaheed Jaspal Singh Gurdaspur.
Bhai Jaspal Singh was killed on March 29, 2012 when the Punjab police had opened fire on a group Sikhs holding a peaceful demonstration at Gurdaspur. Bhai Jaspal Singh was a B. Tech (first year) student at Beant College of Engineering and Technology, Gurdaspur.
As per information the AISSF presented Shaheed Bhai Jaspal Singh scholarship award to 3 girls students namely Mandeep Kaur, Konika Mahajan and Rupinder Kaur at Village Chaura Sidhwan near Gurdaspur on March 29, 2013.
According to Daily Ajit, a Punjab vernacular, the awarded comprised of Rs. 11,000/- cash.
In a communication with the Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) AISSF president Karnail Singh Peermohammad said that total 12 students were short-listed for the scholarship and three names were finalized on the basis for their academic performance and merit.
