Sikh body demands judicial commission to expose nexus of politicians-cops-smugglers running drug racket

December 30, 2013 | By

Amritsar, Punjab (December 30, 2013): Dal Khalsa has urged the Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to show magnanimity, political will and seriousness to expose the unholy nexus of politicians-cops-smugglers by constituting judicial commission to probe the global drug racket, as the drug menace has reached an alarming position threatening to engulf the younger generation.

Considering the drug menace as biggest challenge being faced by the society, senior most leaders of the group Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib and Kanwar Pal Singh said the need of the hour was to unmask those political bigwigs, who were playing havoc with the lives of the younger generation.

Resolving not to allow the CM to brush the issue under the carpet under any pretext, they said Badal Sahib should constitute a commission headed by sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court with other members from lower judiciary and civil rights groups.

They said the rise in drug trafficking and disclosure made by arrested drug lord and former DSP Jagdish Bhola about the alleged involvement of people in the corridor of power in the drug racket, has set the alarm bells ringing. Terming the spat between state’s Chief Minister and leader of the opposition party over the CBI probe into the drug racket as shadow-boxing, they asked both Badal and Bajwa to stop playing politics on the issue.

Similarly the former head of state’s intelligence department Shashi Kant is also privy to the first hand information regarding certain politicians from ruling class and opposition party beside cops having involvement (directly or indirectly) in drug rackets, they said.

“After his retirement as DGP (Prisons), Kant has launched a crusade against drug menace and is willing to reveal the names, in case Badal constitutes the judicial commission”.

The leaders declared that their group would organize an anti-drug rally in Amritsar in Jan to highlight the concerns of the society and to bring the issue into the focus. They appealed to all political parties across the spectrum, human rights groups, religious institutions like SGPC, DSGMC to come forward and work together to make Punjab- a drug free state”.
