Sikh Genocide: Delhi Court Reserves Order on Anticipatory Bail Plea of Sajjan Kumar

Chandigarh: A District court in Delhi today reserved its order on anticipatory bail plea of senior Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in connection with the 1984 Sikh Genocide case. The court is expected to pronounce its order on Sajjan Kumar’s anticipatory bail plea tomorrow.

As per the media reports the Delhi High Court had earlier on November 4 rejected Sajjan Kumar’s plea to change the judge hearing a case related to November 1984 genocidal violance against the Sikhs. Sajjan Kumar’s case was transferred to the Patiala House court by the High Court, which directed the district judge to video record the proceedings at the cost of the accused.
Furthermore the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had moved the High Court challenging the acquittal of Kumar in a case relating to killing of five Sikhs -Kehar Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Raghuvender Singh, Narender Pal Singh and Kuldeep Singh.
Earlier, Kumar, who was acquitted by a trial court in 2013 of charges of being involved in the murder of five Sikhs by a mob in Delhi Cantonment’s Raj Nagar area during the Sikh killings, has asked for another bench to hear the case.
Three decades of Impunity and denial of Justice:
It is notable that high ups in the Congress party and the Indian administration perpetrated the Sikh genocidal violence against the Sikhs in November 1984, in which thousands of Sikhs were massacred throughout India. Culprits of the genocidal massacres of Nov. 1984 have enjoyed impunity and high political posts during past three decades where as the victims of the massacre were left to perish as the justice was blatantly denied in these cases.
