Sikh Martyr Bhai Dilawar Singh remembered on martyrdom day at Akal Takht Sahib

Amritsar, Punjab (August 31, 2013): Commemorating the 18th death anniversary of Bhai Dilawar Singh an assassin of late Chief Minister of Punjab, the Sikh groups fired a salvo against the Central government for its proposed move to release the postal stamp in memory of late Congress leader Beant Singh.

Eulogizing the sacrifice of Dilawar Singh, the represen- tatives of Panthic groups termed the Centre move as “conti-nuation of its anti-Sikh policies and resolve to oppose it tooth and nail.

The resolution to this effect was adopted. In all 5 resolutions that were adopted during the Sikh conclave amidst Bhole so nihal, the spirited gathering of Panthic activists that assembled at 2nd floor of the Akal Takht urged the SGPC to install the portrait of Bhai Dilawar Singh at Central Sikh Museum and also observe his martyrdom day in future as Akal Takht has accorded the title of “great martyr” on him on 23 March 2012.

In another resolution, the gathering urged the Akal Takht jathedar to take up the issue of Sikh detainees languishing in various jails since 1995 in connection with Beant Singh murder case, with Shiromani AKali Dal leadership.

The gathering performed Ardas for the well being of death row convict Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana and Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara, who is serving life sentence in Beant Singh assassination case.

Dal Khalsa leader Kanwar Pal Singh, while talking with media said Bhai Dilawar Singh sacrificed his life to restore Sikh Human Rights and to end the inhuman and cruel regime of the then CM, who was instrumental in killings of hundreds of Sikh youth.

Prominent amongst those who attended the function were SAD (A) head Simranjit Singh Mann, Dal Khalsa president and spokesperson Harchranjit Singh Dhami and Kanwar Pal Singh, Sant Baljit Singh Daduwal, Panch Pardani leader Harpal Singh Cheema, Gaini Baldev Singh and Ranbir Singh head of Sikh Youth of Punjab. No SGPC member or functionary of Shiromani Akali Dal attended the function. However the head Granthi of Darbar Sahib Gaini Jagtar Singh bestowed the robe of honour to family members of martyrs.
