Sikhs’ protest against Gadkari’s speech is a corollary of Anti-Sikh Propaganda

May 15, 2010 | By

Fatehgarh Sahib (May 15, 2010): The Sikh Students Federation in a press statement has remarked that the opposition offered by the Sikhs yesterday to controversial speech of BJP chief at Fatehgarh Sahib, is a corollary of distortion process of Sikh history unleashed by RSS and hindutva forces. While referring to Nitin Gadkari, Balbir Punj and Manoranjan Kalia, SSF leaders Paramjeet Singh Gazi and Makhan Singh Gandhuan said “they were the real trouble-makers; as they repeatedly, during their speeches, referred to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur as “Banda Veer Bairagi”; a term coined by hindutva forces to distort the image of founder of first Sikh rule.”

“SGPC and Badal Dal should learn lesson from yesterday’s uprising that Sikh Sangat is not going to tolerate attempts to saffronise Sikh identity any more”, they added. SSF has also criticized Punjab Government and Punjab police for arresting S. Simranjeet Singh Mann and thus prevented him from participating in a function held at Fatehgarh Sahib. “It is shameful that the police arrested Sikh activists in order to prevent them from visiting land of martyrs.” PS Gazi added.
