Special Report: Who Said What on DGP Dinkar Gupta’s Utterances Against Kartarpur Sahib?

February 23, 2020 | By

Chandigarh: East Punjab police chief DGP Dinkar Gupta made a highly objectionable and hurtful remark against Kartarpur Sahib. Talking to Indian Express on Friday “Kartarpur offers a pentagonal that you send somebody in the morning as an ordinary chap and by evening he comes back as a trained terrorist actually”.

His statement has triggered a wave of condemnation from cross sections of Punjabi society and the Sikh Jagat.

Darshan of Kartarpur Sahib are very important for us. If Darshan Didaare of Kartarpur Sahib makes us terrorist then we are ready to be such terrorists hundreds of times. Indian government should take strict action against Punjab DGP and a case should be registered him as he has hurt the Sikh feelings. People should keep visiting Kartarpur Sahib along with their children.

– Giani Harpreet Singh, SGPC appointed acting Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib.

Notably, Giani Harpreet Singh is visiting Pakistan and he issued this statement from Kartarpur Sahib itself.

DGP Dinkar Gupta’s statement has exposed his highly communal mindset. It is very dangerous for a personal of such a communal mindset to hold the powerful post of police chief, therefore he should be removed from the post with immediate effect.

When UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres visited Kartarpur Sahib few days back he said that Kartarpur Sahib was the gate way of peace. But on the other hand Punjab DGP is issuing such unfortunate statements. With this statement the Punjab government has come under question because such a senior official can not issue such a statement without concurrence from the government.

Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should clear their stand on Kartarpur Sahib corridor in wake of Punjab DGP’s statement against Kartarpur Sahib corridor otherwise they will be considered responsible for DGP Dinkar Gupta’s statement. Secondly, Dinkar Gupta should be booked under hurting Sikh feelings, and he should be arrested and interrogated to know that on whose instance he issued such a volatile statement.

– Bhai Ranjit Singh, Former Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib.

DGP Dinkar Gupta’s statement show that how these officials are working at stooges of Centre’s anti-Sikh agencies and how much hate they have for the Sikhs. If Punjab CM fails to take strong notice of Dinkar Gupta’s statement and dismisses him from his post, then it will be understood that he is also part of conspiracies against the Punjab and the Sikhs.

– Simranjit Singh Mann, former MP and president of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar (Mann).

Punjab DGP’s statement is part of conspiracy against the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor. DGP should focus on his work and refrained from challenging the decisions taken by governments of two countries.

DGP Dinkar Gupta could carry out such activities in future that will be detrimental for the situation in the state. Therefore impartial and independent investigation against DGP’s utterances are must at this stage. Punjab CM should order such investigation with immediate effect.

– Harpal Singh Cheema, President of Dal Khalsa.

DGP’s statement is part of conspiracy against Kartarpur Sahib corridor. He should be booked for hurting the Sikh sentiments.

– Sewa Singh Sekhan, Shiromani Akali Dal (Brahampura).

The anti-Sikh mindset of the internal security apparatus and personally of the DGP can clearly be measured from his categorical statement. The hate speech delivered by Mr. Dinkar Gupta DGP, Punjab from the  public platform amounts to spread hatred and disaffection against the Sikh community and also against the  Religious Sikh Shrine Sri Kartarpur Sahib. He must be removed as DGP, followed by suspension forthwith and a criminal case be registered against him under Section 153(A) of the Indian Penal Code for delivering the hate speech against the Sikh community.

– Bir Davinder Singh, former deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly.

Punjab DGP’s statement is highly condemnable. Punjab officials and bureaucracy should come forward to distance themselves from DGP’s statement.

– Gurbachan Singh, Secretary of Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO).

From Punjab DGP’s hateful hindutva statement, it appears that the Punjab congress and Punjab government is pursuing the Hindutva agenda and want to create hurdles in the way of Darshan Didare of Kartarpur Sahib by spreading such bugbears – Sikh intellectual including Bhai Ajaib Singh Bagari, Gurtej Singh (Ex-IAS), Prof. Gurdarshan Singh, Jaspal Singh Sidhu, Prof. Manjit Singh, Rajinder Singh Khalsa and others. A criminal case should be filed against the DGP for his politically motivated statements and be given the marching orders.

– Aam Aadmi Party leaders Harpal Singh Cheema and Kultar Singh Sandhwan.

The statement has hurt the sentiments of entire Sikh community and they are already hitting back with strong criticism. It is for the DGP now to explain that how can he justify his remarks when Prime Minister of India had claimed credit for it.

– Pargat Singh, Congress party MLA from Jalandhar (Punjab).

If Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has guts he should remove DGP Dinkar Gupta with immideate effects because he has labelled devotees as ‘terrorists’.

– Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Bholath MLA.

Presently the police regime in Punjab is highly corrupt. Even SHOs are drug addicts and take bribes from drugs paddlers. Crime is on the rise in state and there is total failure on the part of police. But at the same time the Punjab police chief is issuing such none-sense statements. People of Punjab do not need such a police chief therefore Dinkar Gupta should be removed from his post with immediate effect.

– Simarjit Singh Bains, MLA and leader of Lok Insaaf Party.
