Suspects In Sikh Man Assault Plead Not Guilty In Court

Fresno: The suspects in an assault incident involving an elderly Sikh man have pleaded not guilty in court Friday (March 30).

On Wednesday, the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Alexis Mendoza, 17, and Daniel Wilson, 22.

Mendoza, according to the District Attorney’s Office, is being prosecuted as an adult.

Both Mendoza and Wilson are charged with Assault by Means Likely to Produce Great Bodily Injury, in addition to allegations that the crimes committed are hates crimes, and that the victim is over the age of 65.

Mendoza and Wilson were arrested on Tuesday.

Bail is set at $115,000 for Mendoza, and $35,000 for Wilson. Both are scheduled to be back in court, on April 6.

Mendoza could spend 13 years behind bars, if convicted. Wilson, meanwhile, is facing an eight-year sentence, if convicted.
