Acting on a petition moved by an Amritdhari Sikh from Ambala, the Punjab and Haryana High Court yesterday stayed orders of Session court of Ambala regarding removal of Kirpan in court room. It is notable that a Sessions judge of Ambala had refused to record witness of a Sikh who was wearing a 'Kirpan'.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has reportedly taken up a petition filed by an Amritdhari Sikh, who was dined to depose as a witness in the court because he was carrying a ‘Kirpan’. The High court took up the petition on Friday (May 09) and issued notice to the Haryana home secretary.
An Amritdhri Sikh named Dilawar Singh has reportedly been denied permissions depose as witness in Ambala Sessions court. Ambala's sessions judge Rajesh Gupta has reportedly passed a written order against Dilawar Singh directing him to remove his 'Kirpan' in order to depose in his court.
Sikhs residing in Italy are likely to get some relief on Kirpan issue, as the Italian authorities have reportedly agreed to allow to ‘limited size’ Kirpan at public places.
The Supreme Sikh Council says the kirpan is one of five articles of faith to be worn by baptised Sikhs at all times and cannot be removed.
New Zealand PM John Key has also signalled that the Government could change current Civil Aviation Authority rules to allow kirpans to be taken on flights.

Amritsar, Punjab (July 31, 2014): The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has strongly criticized Ganganagar (Rajasthan) based “University of Kota” also called “Kota University” for banning an Amritdhari Sikh student from entrying the examination hall because of his Kirpan.

Washington, United States (May 04, 2014): A Sikh in California has been barred from jury duty after he refused to remove the kirpan.
California, United States (April 25, 2014): According to reports in media, an American Sikh man has been denied permission to carry a 'kirpan' while serving on a jury by a California court.
Italy (February 25, 2014): As per certain media reports a Sikh youth in Italy has been fined €23,000 (around 19.6 lakh rupees) by a court here for not removing his Kirpan.
Houston, US (November 20, 2013): It is learnt that a Houston Sikh woman Kawaljeet Kaur has been fighting for her right to carry Kirpan into a downtown Houston federal building for nearly nine years and it appears now that the law may be on her side.
Amritsar, Punjab (October 18, 2013): In a statement issued from it’s Amritsar based head office the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has said that not allowing an Amritdhari Sikh student board a bus at Amtrak in Davis city of US state California was distressing.
Davis, California (October 16, 2013): As he has for the past two years, UC Davis student Harsimran Singh arrived at the local Amtrak station early Saturday morning to take a bus to Sacramento, where he would then board a train to visit his family in Selma, south of Fresno.
New York, US (October 02, 2013): The Sikh Coalition has created a “Know Your Rights” document explaining the US federal government’s new policy allowing for greater accommodation of Sikh kirpans in most federal buildings. The federal government implemented this policy on December 10, 2012, and made it public in February of 2013.
Brampton (September 20, 2013): The World Sikh Organization of Canada has helped resolve a kirpan accommodation issue at Brampton’s Copeland Public School where a Sikh student in grade three was told he would not be permitted to wear his kirpan during physical education classes.
Toronto (September 13, 2013): The World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) has helped Baldev Singh secure the right to freely wear his kirpan at the Club Coffee plant in Toronto.
Vancouver (April 11, 2013): According to a recent news release dated April 11, 2013 by the World Sikh Organization of Canada, the organization has worked with the British Columbia Ministry of Justice as well as the BC Sheriff Service to develop accommodation guidelines for the kirpan in BC courthouses. The accommodation will begin to be offered on April 12, 2013.
